    Ralph Farnum, his wife and three children immigrated from England on theJames, which arrived to Massachusetts in September of 1635. He is listedas simply "barber" and bound for Ipswich. Ages listed are 32 (James), 28(Alice), 7 (Mary), 4 (Thomas) and 2 (Ralph, Jr.).

    Ralph was a known descendent of Robert de Farnum, a companion of Williamthe Conqueror. The family was seated at Querndon House, Gloucestershire,England, and is in the line of Henry III. Ralph was a Proprietor atIpswich in 1639, and removed to Andover, Mass.

    WOOD - July 28, Mrs. Maude Mable Wood, ages 88 years of 2408 - 33 St. S.W. Mrs. Wood was born in Manton, Rhode Island and came to Calgary in 1913, residing here ever since. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. James (Alfreda) Worrall of Didsbury and Mrs. George (Inez) Kirkpatrick of Calgary, and one sone, Malcolm of Didsbury, 11 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Services conducted by the Rev. Doug Walker Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at "The Hillside Chapel" (17th Ave. South West at Scarboro) CY FOSTER - GOODER Funeral Service. Phone 244-2106.     Inez went to dance school in Calgary. Miss Jean Gauld, late 1920s or mid-1930s. Inez could stretch her leg straight up and touch the top of the doorway with her toes. I do know grandma had beautiful long legs.

    According to Archives Canada, "Jean Helen Gauld, 1902?-1984, moved to Calgary, Alberta with her father around 1914. She won many awards for her Highland dancing, and by the age of 14 established herself as a professional dance instructor. She expanded her range to include ballet, ethnic, and modern styles. Later in her career she taught at Mount Royal College and the Montessori School of Calgary." There are photos of her in the Glenbow Archives, Calgary.

    According to her son George, Inez was a Congregationalist in Calgary, later became United Church. (Not clear to me from my notes if the Congregationalist Church became the United Church or if Grandma did, hereself.) Also according to George, Mavis Deeves was Grandma's best friend growing up.

    Inez married George Theodore KIRKPATRICK on 24 Aug 1933 in Calgary, AB, Canada. George (son of James Douglas KIRKPATRICK and Emma BOWE) was born on 8 Oct 1910 in Hope, BC, Canada; died on 24 Mar 1972 in Calgary, AB, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Note: Alfreda's daughter Jeanette says she was named after her father's first wife, Alphreda! She never knew the correct spelling of her name until she had to order a copy of her birth certificate one day. It came back saying her name was spelled Alphreda and from then on she used that spelling for official purposes, but kept the spelling she was used to for informal day-to-day purposes.

    Alfreda (Wood) Worrall -- from her eulogy

    Alfreda Wood, daughter of David and Maude, was born March 2, 1900 in Sheffield, Vermont, U.S.A. She attended school in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. until the family moved to Calgary in 1913.

    She worked for Great North Western Railways Telegraphs, Woolworths and the Bay. In 1923 she moved to a farm home, working with two families.

    On January 27, 1926 Alfreda married James Worrall in Calgary. They lived on a farm ten miles east of Didsbury, farming there for forty-five years. They had a daughter.

    Alfreda was a member of the Mountain View W.I. for sixty-eight years and a Life member since 1965. She held many offices over the years. She exhibited at conferences and fairs in the classes of knitting, crocheting and original rugs. Alfreda was a valued member.

    Predeceased by James in 1981, Alfreda lived alone until 1988 at which time she went into the Didsbury Nursing Home. She passed away January 6, 1993. She is survived by her daughter Jeanette and Lawrence Hunter, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as other family members. Alfreda will be missed by all who knew her.
