  Stephen was presumably the third son of Balthazar and Alice De Wolf of Lyme, Conn. He served as a youth in the Connecticut Volunteers during the India troubles, including "King Philip's War," with his eldest brother Edward, for which they were awarded a township in Narragansett now known as Voluntown, Connecticut. Stephen appears to have been married twice. Details of the first marriage are not available.
