  1. 2.  William HOPKINS was born in 1594 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England; died about 1643 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut.

    Notes:

William Hopkins was in Stratford as early as 1640. He was AssistantMagistrate 1641-2, but there are no records of his origins, when he diedor what wife or children he had.

It is thought that his widow Mary, then wife of Richard Whitehead ofWindsor, negotiated a contract with William Lewis of Farmington for themarriage of their children. William's daughter Mary became wife ofWilliam Lewis, Jr., son of the bargainer. From this, it can be inferredthat William died prior to 1644.

William married Mary ANDREWS about 1621 in England. Mary was born about 1598 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England; died in Apr 1671 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Mary ANDREWS was born about 1598 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England; died in Apr 1671 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut.

    Notes:

The will of Richard Whitehead indicates that Mary "Lewes" was hisstepdaughter ("my daughter in law") and appears to be, with his wife, hisprincipal heir. Whitehead's will also mentions that 100 pounds due to hiswife Mary "while she was sole and unmarried, which money was entrustedwith my brother in law Hugh Hopkins and, by him, by and with the consentof my said wife and daughter, delivered unto me for the use of my saiddaughter, etc." .

This seems to indicate that wife Mary had a brother or brother-in-lawHugh Hopkins, perhaps the brother of her deceased husband WilliamHopkins, and that she had a daughter Mary who had married a man named"Lewes" (or Lewis). From these scant clues, we believe that this is thewife and the daughter of William Hopkins.
