  1. 1.  James HEAD was born in 1683 in Newcastle, Rockingham, Hew Hampshire (son of Arthur HEAD and Sarah REYNOLDS); died on 16 Sep 1743 in Bradford, Merrimack, New Hampshire.

    Notes:

    A footsoldier of Bradford, Massachusetts. In 1707 he removed to Bradford,Massachusetts, where he made his home until his death n 1743. He wastwice married, and has three children by his first wife, Sarah Atwood,who died in 1717, and three by his second wife, Elizabeth Atwood, hisfirst wife's sister, the last child born being Major James Head.

    James married Sarah ATWOOD on 13 Feb 1710 in Bradford, Merrimack, New Hampshire. Sarah (daughter of Philip ATWOOD, Captain and Sarah TENNEY) was born on 13 Apr 1689 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts; died on 25 May 1717 in Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 2.  Arthur HEAD was born about 1647 in Wales; died in 1708 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.

    Notes:

    Arthur Head was the immigrant ancestor, a native, it is believed, fromWales, who settled at New Castle, New Hampshire, in 1671, and died therein September 1711. He came to America with his brother, Nathaniel.

    Arthur was a fisherman at Great Island, having bought land there in 1671.He was defendant in a lawsuit in 1677, and served as a juror in 1693 forthe inquest of John Row. He sold the Great Island property in 1690.

    Arthur, the first of the name of which we have a record, took a deed ofhouses and land of Christopher Goss bearing date of 25 Dec. 1671. On Nov.5, 1690, "Arthur Head of the Great Island in town of Portsmouth In yeProvince of New Hampshire, Fisherman," deeded to Thomas Paine a warehouseand land.

    Arthur married twice, his first wife unknown but perhaps named Ann. Hemarried second to Sarah Reynolds, who swept the town meeting hall in 1694and 1697. He was survived by Sarah, who died not later than 1718. Theyreared five children, the eldest of whom was James Head.

    "London Neck" was patented to John Head and Philip Atwood.

  1. 6.  William REYNOLDS was born in 1613 in County Kent, England; died in 1675 in Dover, Stanford, New Hampshire.

    Notes:

    William was of Plymouth, Massachusetts, as early as 1634 when he was sentto Maine with John Howland in the Hocking Affair. He received land inDuxbury on February 6, 1637 and soon after, "...the government allowedhim to build." He also owned cattle (Pope).

    He married Alys (Alice) Kitson of Duxbury on 3 August 1638. On 25 March1641, his signature appears on a complaint to Gov. Winthrop of the BayColony, together with Roger Williams, William Carpenter and others, inthe Garton Affair, and about that time, having sold his land in PlymouthColony, he removed to Cape Porpoise (Arundel), now Kennebunk, Maine.

    He had a 200 acre grant of land there in 1654, bought Peter Turbal'shouse and 200 acres on the east side of the Kennebunk River in 1657, andwas licensed to keep the ferry there, at least through 1673. He was madea Freeman of Cape Porpoise 5 July 1653. On April 12, 1675, he and hiswife Alice deeded all their property to their son John, conditioned oncare for life, having first given money to his sons William and Jobbefore signing the deed.

    William married Alice KITSON on 30 Aug 1638 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Alice was born in 1610 in England; died after 1675 in Cape Porpoise, York, Maine. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
