Notes - The will of Richard Whitehead indicates that Mary "Lewes" was hisstepdaughter ("my daughter in law") and appears to be, with his wife, hisprincipal heir. Whitehead's will also mentions that 100 pounds due to hiswife Mary "while she was sole and unmarried, which money was entrustedwith my brother in law Hugh Hopkins and, by him, by and with the consentof my said wife and daughter, delivered unto me for the use of my saiddaughter, etc." .
This seems to indicate that wife Mary had a brother or brother-in-lawHugh Hopkins, perhaps the brother of her deceased husband WilliamHopkins, and that she had a daughter Mary who had married a man named"Lewes" (or Lewis). From these scant clues, we believe that this is thewife and the daughter of William Hopkins.
